BWW Reviews: A CHORUS LINE is Still a Hit, Despite Uneven CastingBWW Reviews: A CHORUS LINE is Still a Hit, Despite Uneven Casting

A Chorus Line is the 1975 Broadway musical that gives audiences an inside look at what it's like to be a dancer. The action of the play takes place at a single audition in which 17 dancers all vie for a spot in a new Broadway show. Throughout the course of the evening we learn about the dancers; their personalities, their pasts, and most importantly what has shaped them into the performers they are today. When A Chorus Line opened in 1975 it was met with an outpouring of positive press, and wound up taking home 9 Tony Awards including Best Musical and the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for drama. This show has it all; an exciting score, explosive dancing, and a ton of heart. It's no wonder that it ran in NYC for a total of 6,137 performances (unprecedented at that time), and is beloved and highly recognized by millions.

Matt Kopec brings real charm and charisma to the role of Buddy, making the role his own creation rather than a re-hashing of the infamous Will Farrell's film performance.

Yasmina Reza is not known for creating comedic characters. She is known for creating extremely real and flawed characters that in their truth are incredibly comedic. There is a very nuanced but very real difference there. It is unfortunate that Nickell could not make heads or tails of thisbecause he had the talent in his cast to deliver it flawlessly.

9 to 5: The Musical, based on the popular 1980 film, tells the story of Consolidated Industries employees Doralee (Zoe Kassay), Violet (Erin Romero), and Judy (Amanda Kuchinski) as they struggle to be respected in a male dominated work place. Sexism and harassment abound until the three girls plot revenge on their boss, Mr. Hart (Galloway Stevens). Throw in some mayhem, an exciting score penned by Dolly Parton herself, and you're left with the above premise spread over two full acts clocking in at around 2 and a half hours with intermission.
