The Virgin Labfest is Looking for Writing Fellows

Manila, Philippines, May 25, 2013--The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), which spearheads the Virgin Labfest, an annual festival of unpublished and unstaged original Filipino plays, is opening its doors for the ninth Virgin Labfest Writing Fellows Program.

The Virgin Labfest Writing Fellows Program is a two-week mentorship program, which focuses on the study and practice of dramatic writing for the stage. Successful candidates will take part in lectures, discussions, and workshops on playwriting and critiquing scripts. Fellows will also attend this year's festival, and participate in the open talkback sessions with renowned playwrights, directors, and stage actors.

Fellowship applicants must:

  • Be a college student or a young professional, ages 18-29
  • Submit the following at ccp.artist.training@gmail.com:
    • Completed application form (download form HERE)
    • One or two literary work samples--drama or fiction, full text or excerpts, and written in Filipino, English, Hiligaynon, Kinaray-a or Cebuano
  • Submit works that have not been published or produced by a professional theater company, and have not won in any national writing competition
  • Submit works in .doc format (12 points, double-spaced, 8"x11" paper, maximum of 10 pages)
  • Not write their real or pen names on their works

Deadline of submission of requirements is on Tuesday, June 4.

Successful candidates must attend the duration of the program.

PhP 500 registration fee, which includes training modules and tickets to this year's festival, will be required.

The program will culminate with a staged reading at CCP Bulwagang Amado Hernandez on Sunday, July 7.

Successful applicants will be announced on Friday, June 14.
