Production Photos: UP Playwrights TheaterÂ's UMAARAW, UMUULANÂ…, 11/21-12/9

"Umaaraw, Umuulan…," a stage adaptation based on Gilda Cordero-Fernando's children's short story, is written by Rody Vera, and  directed by Jose Estrella; and was originally staged by Dulaang UP last theater season.

The show tells about Japoy and Galis's journey to an amazing wonderland teeming with strange creatures and even stranger events such as the enormous Doña Geronima, the Spanish-speaking dwarf maitre d' Pacqui, the woeful kapre named Kap, talking pythons and frogs, tiyanaks, and dancing aswangs; a wedding ceremony between two tikbalangs also awaits the show's protagonists, Japoy and Galis.

Besides revisiting Philippine folklore and mythology, "Umaaraw, Umuulan…" aims to remind its audience about the urgency of caring for Mother Earth, and for respecting and showing compassion toward all creatures - big or small.

"Umaaraw, Umuulan…" features sculptor Leeroy New's costumes, Don Salubayba's shadow puppetry, Lex Marcos's set and light design, TJ Ramos's sound design, and Stephen Viñas's choreography.
